keeping ur emotions all bottled up? coz i cant seem to express myself... i mean, its easy for me to get angry, but i can barely recall the last time i cried to a person... i cant express sadness, grief, and all those things.... at least in public... i have a tendency to choke up all those tears. exactly how bad is that?

That's bad. You should at least be able to let out emotions when you're alone, or whatever. If you don't have a time to let out emotions, find one. I know from experience that if you don't let it out, you're gonna end up exploding in someone's face.

Pretty bad. I've done it before and then just randomly, after quite awhile, I just broke. I agree with Mck, they're all gonna come out adventually but get them out when you can.

oh erik knows it all... but there are certain things i cant tell him. and i just cant cry in front of anyone... maybe its coz when i was a crybaby kid i was told to shut it coz i wasnt a baby anymore... so my emotional self is now all bottled up.

I use to be that way, you just have to find someone you feel comfortable with about sharing your emotions.

Well, you know you can vent to me whenever.
How can you be expected to cry to someone else if all your emotions are bottled up?
Try this....
You should practice venting to a mirror. And just sayng whatever comes to your mind. Even if it's the plot of a television show yu watched 5 years ago. Continue doing random practices like that. Eventually start asking yourself "What do I think ab out that?" Answer your question.
And then.... eventually ask yourself, "Why do I think that way about it?" Answer your question. Even if it's rambling. No one will care because... the only person who can hear is yourself.
Randomly talking to yourself helps you get in better touch with yourself. It helps you learn all about yourself and accept yourself for the way you are. Once you can talk to yourself, then talking to others comes easier.

I never keep anything bottled up. I always express myself.

I honestly think that it depends on the person. Some people feel the need to vent every emotion. Some people don't need to vent them, and instead express themselves though another outlet. Sometimes that outlet is destructive -- like cutting. Somtimes that outlet is creative -- like through some artistic ability. Sometimes that outlet is constructive -- like through volunteering or helping others in some other way since realizing that there are people who have it worse tend to make a person look at his problem from a different light..

Whether or not it's actually bad to keep your emotions bottled up depends on the outlet that you choose. I'm one of those people who keep my feelings bottle up. I mean, if something is kind of bothering me then I vent about it. If something is really bothering me, though, I just can't talk about it. I don't see it as a bad thing, since I just use other outlets to relieve the stress. I work out my problems on my own without help, and it usuallys turns out in the end. That is how it has always been for me, and I can't just turn that independent streak off.

Actually, I'm the go-to person when peopl ehave problems. Every body comes to me to let it all out, because they know that I will try to guide them without being judgemental. I don't think those people would know how to handle it if I turned around and laid all of my problems at their feet.

Like other people have probably said: It depends on the person.

Different people have different tolerances and breaking points. Some are higher than others; some may be so detached from the world that not much of anything is ever expressed, yet it may never have any true effect on them.

Bliss, sorrow, fear, love... Emotions are merely constructs of the living. How they affect you depends on you. Whether you choose to bottle them up or shout them out; the choice to do so and how they affect you is all up to you.

Anyways, that's my two bits.

Sad dear hbp, please read this, that happened to my friend:she is very calm person, never talks about herself and her problems, always tries to help to others and never says when she's annoyad by sth.like some MAria Theresa Rolling Eyes very, very annoying-you can tellher she's a b*tch in her face and she will smile at you.freak.anyway she got drunk once and she just started crying and couldnt stop for cca 2 hours.she was talking for like 2 hours about all her problems.she was taken to hospital in the end cuz she was really drunk and she was still crying.get it?she has to get drunk just to express her feelings.i'm really glad I'm a bit tempered so when someone or sth bothers me I just madden sometimes...

and you dont have to cry in front of anyone...you just have to express your feelings and I think your room and some sad song would be the best for that. Smile I usually lock the door of my room and klisten to ''Otherside'' by RHCP.i think it's best to do when you feel bad.and yeah hitt sth on the wall pillow or sth or kick the ball...
BUT if you have some problem and you're worried about sth then you should tell some friend about it.but try to pick some optimistic friens, some person that wont tell you ''oh god, thats horrible!'' Rolling Eyes you need someone who'll say ''dont worry,we'll fix that...''

Well, find a person that you really trust, a person who you know that is not gonna make fun of your problems... your best friend for example... but it has to be someone that you can see his/her face... talk without being ashamed and if you feel that you want to cry, just do it... another thing I do when I am really angry and want to express my self is writing my problems and then destroy the paper... it makes me feel that I got rid of them up to a point...

lol im really the worst person to ask, i dont remember crying in front of anyone since i was about 14, but i dont really think i need it as much, i guess it depends on the person

the question is do you feel you should open up to someone in particular and you dont have the courage to do it? cause it seems to me as though you have found in erik someone to really open up to

I know exactly how you feel.

I just made an Advice Atrium in the Leaky Cauldron, so if you want to, you can ask for some help there.

I personally suggest poetry. You don't have to be a genius or a professional to write poetry. You just do it to express yourself. The best thing is that free verse has no rules. If you say it's poetry, then it is. I do it as a stress reliever.

thanks guys.

hmm.. thats it... thats the bad thing with me zenny. i dont wanna feel sad... so i make myself angry instead, which is totally not good. but sometimes, you cant get mad, so thats when i cry to myself. i dont know but im not comfortable with almost anyone, seeing as im not a shoulder-to-cry-on either. no one comes to me for those things because they think that i never feel sad and im all about having fun and laughing. in reality i have trouble expressing myself.

about writing, well the worst bit is that many times i dont want to write down my feelings, because im afraid of confirming them through writing. im not the type of person who can face tragedies... im much better at running away and distracting myself... which, in other words, is weakness.

and its not very easy to confide to people. im the class clown and so every one expects me to be jolly and happy. even my mom thinks im strong with no problems. so it becomes hard for me to just sit and cry because it would worry them like hell. and close friends are no help. theyre there for me, yes, but they love quoting the bible and stuff, which pisses me off since im skeptical about the bible and religious authorities.

I hate when people quote the bible to me . . . You don't have to write your feelings specifically. You can just write stories and such. It's a great way to vent emotions in a sort of subconscious way. If Jo didn't do that, then we would never have Harry Potter! She used writing as her therapy. Anne Frank did it, too. She wrote some of the best stories that I have ever read!

i also hold in my feelings alot, and it really is unhealthy. i usually just every so often crack start crying or throw a tantrum or something. but i do find that expressing yourself creatively really works. i started drawing and writing and it really did make me feel better. that just might be me though, it's probably different for different people.

You can always confide in me. I am the best secret keeper in the universe. I would never, never tell, not even in the face of torture.

PM me sometime and we can talk if you like.
