Draco pondered for a second. How could he get Potter to trust him? He really didn't have any reason to. "You just have to. Trust me, Potter." He held out his hand to shake.

Draco shook his head. "I dunno. They obviously won't approve. But it's not like I can do anything about it." He ate another jelly bean. "You can go back to your compartment if you want. I suppose Mud--Granger and Weasley are waiting for you."

Malfoy shrugged. It didn't really matter to him, he was just trying to make some small talk. And now he was out of things to talk about. "I suppose you'd better get back to your own compartment. We're nearly there, so I'm going to change into my robes now." He began to pull a set of robes out of his trunk.

Harry nodded, "Right, cya." he said then turned and walked out of the compartment. 'What the hell just happened?' he thought as he entered the compartment and sat down next to Ron. "We should probably get ready just now, we're almost there." he said, summoning his robes from his bag.

Draco watched as Harry returned to his compartment. He pulled on his robes, not really sure why he'd just done that. What had posessed him to attempt to befried Harry Potter? Must've been something he ate for dinner last night...

Harry quickly pulled his robes over his clothes then sat back down, still thinking about what had just happened. He mulled things over in his head then realized no one was talking, "Uh, so do you guys think the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher will last more than one year this time?" he asked, for conversation as the silence was getting to him.

Draco sat alone in his compartment, staring out the window. Crabbe and Goyle seemed to have vanished for the time being, not that he really cared. They weren't really must use to him, and certainly not very good company.

Harry sat in the silence, either the others were ignoring him or they'd accumulated selective hearing during the time that he'd left. "I'm going to go a wander around the train, see if the cart's still about." he muttered as he got up and walked out of the compartment. Harry walked around for a couple of minutes and found himself at Draco's compartment. He opened the door and said, "Why? Why are you just deciding to 'befriend' me now and don't give me that I don't know bull." he looked straight at Draco.

Draco looked up, startled by Harry's sudden outburst. His brain didn't seem to be functioning properly. "I...er...what?" He sat there, staring at Potter, his mouth hanging open. He knew that he must look like a complete idiot at the moment.

Draco shrugged. He really didn't have an answer, so he decided to be honest. "I don't really know," he replied. "It just seemed...right. I've never had much against you, Potter. Not really anything legitimate, anyway. I suppose we were just arrogant eleven year old boys when we first met, and well, what did you expect? We weren't about to be all mature about it."
