Who did the Elder wand truly belong to after Dumbledore's death and why? I thought they said that it bleonged to Draco, but I couldn't follow that line of reasoning. thanks |

Harry won it off of Draco when he disarmed him at the Malfoy Manor. So it belongs to Harry. Harry put it back into DD's tomb, though. _________________

Ok, I remember that part, b/c Ron kid of wanted Harry to keep it and all that. Prior to Harry winning it from Draco, who was the actual owner? I was just thinking about Voldemort killing Snape b/c he assumed that Snape was the owner after he killed Dumbledore but Snape really wasn't. At that point was Draco the owner? Why? I don't remember how he got it. I need to go back and re-read.

The way Dumbledore had planned it, Snape was supposed to kill him, on his orders, and then the Elder Wand would lose its power since DD would have died without having been defeated.
However, Draco disarmed DD before Snape killed him, thus Draco became the master of the Elder Wand (without knowing it). Voldemort thought that the killer would be the one to master the wand, and therefore thought that Snape was the master. However the real master was Draco, and then later, when Harry took Draco's wand, Harry became the master having disarmed Draco. _________________ "I can make things move without touching them. Yeah^
The order goes... Harry got it from Draco who got it from Dumbledore who got it from Grindelwald who got it from Gregorovitch.
Here, this might help...

I thought Harry should use it like Ron but he just let it die. _________________ This is my Signature. |

But then Harry runs the risk of someone stealing it or something worse. Plus, he didn't want that wand, he wanted his. So he hid it in the tomb... I thought it was touching to leave it with DD. _________________

This wand thing goes in to deep. If this was the case then shouldn't have Harry lost his wand in 2n year when he dueled malfoy ?
What about dueling Snape at the end of the 6th book ? _________________ This is my Signature. |

Actually, JKR asnwered this... When two people are practicing dueling, like when the members of teh DA practiced, then the whole losing your wand thing doesn't apply, because it was preplanned. Same thing when Snape disarmed Lockhart... it was a friendly duel, despite Snape's dislike for him.
Harry and Draco never disarmed each other in CoS, actually.
At the end of book 6, neither Snape nor Harry disarmed the other. _________________

| You would think the change of mastership would only occur if the person who disarmed/killed their opponent wanted their wand. |

It depends on the wand. Wands have personalities of their own, sort of. The elder wand happens to have a competative personality that chooses only to be loyal to those who win . . . no matter when or how it was won. Here is a quote from Jo:
Wands are quasi-sentient due to the magic they carry. The Elder Wand is the most dispassionate and ruthless of wands because it only considers strength and goes where the power is to the victor. Other wands develop an affinity and loyalty to their owners, but a wand won in a proper adult duel will at least partially switch allegiance to the winner, and so work well with the new owner. (In Duelling clubs there is no real significance attached to winning by either party).

| Wouldn't Draco have loved to realize that he was the owner of the Elder Wand (at least briefly). But then again, he really didn't know what the Elder Wand was, did he? |

I don't think he did. At least, I don't think he thought it could be real. He might have heard the fairy take... but that was always just that, wasn't it... a fairy tale. _________________

They didn't really duel... Harry just used spells on snape and snape blocked the entire time. _________________ House:Ravenclaw (and proud of it!!)
