The reason why I read was because my friend said it was a great book not just because a wonderfully cute guy from HP was in the movie well I didn't even know there was going to be a movie until I finished New Moon

I've never heard of it until I saw something about the movie and I didn't know it was a book until I found this forum. So anyway, I'm asking because it seems to me like the only reason Twilight is even being compared to Harry Potter (they sound like completely different types of books to me) is because the guy in the movie is the guy who played Cedric Diggory. Am I way off?

I had heard of the book before the movie. A few people on here were always talking about it, so I figured I would give it a try. Robert Pattinson being cast as the lead part was not a determining factor for me in reading these books. In fact, I stayed away from movie spoilers, like posters and pictures and stuff, so I could envision the characters for myself, unlike what happened to me with HP.

No that's not it. Every book-turned movie franchise will and is going to be compared to Harry Potter because HP did it all.

I think their being compare so much is because the majority of the people who read Harry Potter read Twilight too, since Harry Potter was over they started to read Twilight, well that's what I've notice in the Twilight forums, for me its very true, I was suicidal LOL j/k but I was sad when the Harry Potter series was over and like a month later I got Twilight and got hooked instantly, I still read Harry Potter like a second bible, but now I just love both series so much, I can't choose which is best, because like you said their sooo different.

I never liked Vampires, but this got me hooked for awhile, but then I went back to reading Harry Potter.

Overall Harry Potter beats Twilight.

I totally second/third/AND fourth that! Buuut, Twilight is a good enough series to read at least once, other than that, only when I'm bored out of my mind, but even then I'll read HP again! Very Happy

HARRY POTTER.

Totally
It's written so much better and it makes you laugh, cry, smile and want to yell all in one book!
Twilight is no match for Harry Potter!

I love both.Im not going to choose because i think it's just childish. They are both fantastic books and they both have amazing plots. I personally think that these books have everything of what a good book needs.

Lord of the Rings was doing the movie thing around the same time as Harry Potter, and I consider those movies leaps and bounds superior to the Harry Potter flicks. Hell, after Prisoner of Azkaban, the HP movies were pretty much throw-away garbage.

Harry Potter movie came out before the Lord of the Rings movie. Period.

However, this thread isn't about Lord of the Rings. At all.

Twilight vs Harry Potter. Discuss.

Goodness. Twilight doesn't even compare with Harry Potter; it has an over-used plot line, if any, and has little to no respectable literary acclaim. Twilight is an angsty teen cliche. Harry Potter pwns.

Twilight should never be compared to Harry Potter. Ever.

Meyer has no writing abilities what-so-ever. At least J.K. Rowling could grasp characterization, literary devices, and plots. Rowling had likable characters, and created a magical, diverse, full world.

Meyer glorified abusive relationships, pedophilia, and set the feminist movement back about ten years.

I really hate Twilight.

You're my new best friend, but she set it back almost 100 years, maybe longer.

You know, I would be just thrilled if you could so much as attmept to support your argument. I'd like to know exactly how and why you think Twilght meets the superiority of HP.

I don't understand how they plan to stick Twilight into 1.5 hours of movie. 350 pages of the book are Bella thinking about how beautiful Edward is, and the last few chapters are the ones with the most things happened. Lolwhut?

lol, they added in a few scenes... well, most of the scenes in the movie are added in or been changed, so far that we know of.
Stephanie Meyer still thinks that BD should be split into two movies.
