Okay, pardon me if I'm missing something here, but what was the point of this character? Sure, Fudge was out of line, but was it so necessary for him to be replaced? Scrimgeour lasted about 200 pages. I'd like to hear everyone's opinion on why he needed to be in the book.
Also, how do you pronounce his last name? _________________ "Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn't mean we all have," said Hermione.

Scrim Gow Er... that's who I pronounced it, lol.
Fudge got fired from office. He covered up the return of Voldemort and put the entire UK in danger. He also signed the educational decrees that took away the students civil liberties. _________________

I say scrim+jour as in bonjour
and yeah...fudge did bad things. jk just couldn't let him go on being minister. and I think it was also to show that...it wasn't just fudge that was messed up. its the entire system, and things aren't easily fixed. _________________

i say it like that too
and i agree with u bella, the main purpose of scrimgoeur was to show that the corruption of the ministry didnt come just from fudge and those who supported him, but that it went even deeper than that _________________

I pronounce is similar. The J is harder than in the word Bonjour, though. _________________

Well yeah, I suppose, but wouldn't it have better if he was introduced in the HBP? I just think it was silly that he wasn't in there very long.
Also, I pronounce it Scrim-Jaw. _________________ "Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn't mean we all have," said Hermione.

. . . jaw?
He wasn't introduced in HBP, because the plot didn't allow it. It doesn't bother me that he only had a short stint. Sometimes these things happen . . . in real life as well as in fiction. He was there for a purpose, and Jo would have been wasting our time if she just decided to throw him in with no purpose in other places just for the hell of it. _________________

It's British, they don't pronounce their letters. _________________

yeah, he was. Sorry, I'm exhausted, so I'm not really paying attention. Fudge introduced him to the PM in the second chapter, and he was the minister of magic until he checked out in DH. So his stint wasn't really that short. _________________

They pronounce their r's, though. Actually, they quite like r's. They even use them in words that have no r's. It's New Yorkers who don't say their r's. Perhaps Australians do the same thing . . . _________________

He was there, then later on we see him during Christmas break and again after the funeral.
Are you referring, perhaps, to the HBP movie where he won't be appearing?

lol I thought I was going insane when you agreed and then bery didn't argue the fact. luckily ginny was in the chat to confirm what I was thinking. she said she gave up on trying to understand what you were talking about lol.
and brits dont tend to say their ending r's actually. like watta and butta and stuff. somehow it looks more new yorkish written that way...but many british people do it too. _________________

gee, thanks Gin. I'm in my half-asleep and refusing to hit the sack state, so I tend to not make sense at this time of the night. In my mind, I kept going back to that chapter, but I just wasn't bridging the gap enough to see the inconsistency. _________________

I think she was trying to justify what you said...because she doesn't expect you to be wrong, because its not like you to be. _________________

^ Yeah what bella said. I'm half asleep reading that and I was like... wait, he's in HBP... Zen knows this, so maybe they mean the movie? Then Bella asked me about it. _________________

Oh, alright guys, I made a mistake. He was introduced in HBP. I still think he could have served more of a purpose. _________________ "Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn't mean we all have," said Hermione.

what would u have had him do?
i think its good that it shows the corruption in the ministry didnt just end with fudge, it would've been boring if the ministry suddenly turned good and dandy, not to mention very unrealistic
scrimgeour shows how the corruption goes on, i think thats enough, im sure he isnt supossed to be a big character _________________

lol, these forums aren't safe in an exhausted state. I usually feel humiliated about the things that I say when I'm exhausted. The problem is that I just can't pull myself away from it! _________________

I pronounce it Scrim-gore. No idea if that's right, but it's always how I envisioned it.
Didn't Fudge say the masses demanded that he resign? Or was he actually fired?(Though, there's noone higher than the Minister of Magic is there? So who could fire him?) |

ooo I just read that part
"I was sacked three days ago! The whole Wizarding Community has been screaming for my resignation for a fortnight. I've never known them so united in my whole term of office!"
that's what fudge said HBP The Other Minister p15 US hardcover edition
It never says who sacked him...the people? the wizengammot? _________________
