There wouldn't be a story without them. Without teh DE's Voldemort wouldn't be anything more than some dude with an ego complex.

I don't even see what there is so speculate about here . . . Obviously every one is in agreement, the books would be useless without death eaters.

Well, I am sure if there wasn't any death eaters there would be some other kind of cult or clan. Voldemort was powerful and eventually would have followers.

There might not be Death Eaters, but there will still be followers. You can't have an evil dictator without followers. If there were no followers, then the story would never have gotten off the ground. The bad guy would just be some angry dude with a snake-like face wandering around muttering to himself about how much he hates Potter.

Less Scary Shocked

And i doubt Harry Potter would of stayed on best seller list for a Decade if it was just about a boy being chased by a random dude every year..

I was seeing the question from this PoV to begin with. I just looked at it Ginny's way. The followers of Voldemort were important. If they hadn't been Death eaters, then they would have been a very similar equivalent. Basically no matter how you look at it, the death eaters would be in the story. There are characters that would be replacable, but the death eaters represent a group of people that is needed in the story either way.

You wouldnt have a story without them.
I mean no one would die (okay thats kinda good) but it wouldnt make the story interesting.
