That's one way to look at it, but when you think about it, it would earase part of the original line in order to make room for the new one.

I thought about that, but it didn't feel right. It wasn't the answer that was given.

I thought covering it up would smudge the chalk...thus erasing it

Not of it's jut hidden from view... I mean, putting a sheet over it gently wouldnt erase it...

ok, it can't be erased, but it gets shorter...

What if you walked away from it... it would look shorter....

That was the answer that I came up with! It wasn't the answer given in the riddle, though.

I love seeing the though-processes of people when they are looking at riddles.

Nope . . . Think of it in terms of not necessarily making the line itself shorter.

That is the correct answer!

The second one is really, really, easy. It just doesn't ask the question, "what am I?"

Exactly! I knew the answer with the first line. I figured that I would post it anyway.

Nothing - No + Some

Two answers... lightning or a waterfall. Both fit for this one, lol. Actually... thunder is a sound.. so the proper answer should be, loud as lightning... I've always hated this one because I'm too easily confused, lol.

well, it says No + SOme if you tyrn the equation around... then it would be Some + No - Nothing. Now the answer would be....SOmeNo... then take away nothing.

SEE? I'm very easily confused. Stupid Ravenclaws, always confusing me. Sad

Still think it's something, lol

Lightning doesn't make a sound. Thunder does, and it just happens to go hand-in-hand with thunder. So lightning doesn't work for this one.

A waterfall happens to be correct, though.

God, you did EXACTLY what the popular phrase you're supposed to come up with says. It's quite funny, actually. It reminds me of that game where your given a bunch of sounds, and the make a phrase of sentence, but because of the way that you are seeing them on the paper they make no sense. However, all of the people listening are hearing the thing that you're trying to figure out. What is that game called?

Anyway, I just wanted to mention that you are on the right track. Just pull it together into a popular phrase.
