Here is probably the quote from JKR you were thinking of...

From her official website...

Section: F.A.Q.
What is Draco Malfoy’s Patronus?
As of the end of Half-Blood Prince, he has no idea how to produce one, so nobody knows. You must remember that the ability to produce a Patronus demonstrates an advanced level of magic not routinely taught to young Hogwarts students (hence the surprise of the prospective members of Dumbledore’s Army when they find out that Harry can make a Patronus).

I think a ferret would be a good idea, but after GoF Draco probably hates them. I wonder if a ferret would really be the animal to protect him...

well Draco was a Death Eater, so obviously he couldn`t produce a patronus. The only one who could was Snape.
Although, I don`t know how it was till he became one.

There would have been no need to, since te dementors fade away. So I personally dont' think he would have bothered lerning. For agruments sake, let's say he did produce a patronus, I don't think it would be a ferret, though.

looks like u answered your own question...

"OKay sooo I know Jo said that draco couldn't do a patronus so hes not worthy of one blah blah cannt really remeber "

but didnt lucius make a partonus of a peacock?

also i think if it were possible for draco to make one it would be something like a snake

I think Patronuses are conjured based on something that has strongly affected you, or a big part of your personality.

Harry is greatly influenced by knowledge of his father, the fact he followed in some footsteps, and throughout the things he learned still loved his father, thus the stag patronus he has.

Snape's patronus was a doe for Lily, the woman he loved. He changed a lot because of her, and risked everything in her memory.

I'd think that yes, the patronus Draco conjured would be a normally cowardly animal but true to the Patronus it would protect him either way. Maybe a possum. :/

The valiant die only once, but cowards survive to reproduce. Laughing Most animals are 'cowardly' to some extent, that's just survival.

I'm trying to think of an animal that "talks a big game" but doesn't back it up, but I'm drawing a blank - something that feigns ferocity well, but runs/hides if push comes to shove. Hognose snakes are all I can think of.

lol you must have an awesome cat then.

i dont think that just because you hate an animal doesnt mean it cant be your patronus. peter chose to be in gryffindor because he wanted to be brave but he wasnt. i expect he probably wanted his patronus/animagus to be something brave valient and powerful ect. a lion or something like that. but he got stuck with a rat. he might of even hated rats but having your animagus be a rat can come in useful for hiding and running away.
ferrets are cheeky and frisky but they run away when danger comes
draco anyone?

Omg, my mom's friend's next door neighbor has this big dog. I'm terrible with breeds, but I know that he's a breed that is supposed to be "mean." Anyway, whenever we go to Pegg's house or come out of her house, the dog promptly runs across the street and barks menacingly from th yard there. If we talk to him, then he retreats further back and barks louder. He's a freaking riot.

Pit bull?

I got two of those that are pure bred, and they are the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet... minus the whole "Big guy knocking you to the ground because he's a tank and doesn't know his own strength" bit.

^ No, I think it's a rotweiler. I looked up dog breeds, and I found the one that looks like the dog.

I like Rottweilers. Tough lookin' dogs. A neighbor of mine had one.

I think Draco's Patronus would be a Chihuahua.

If anyone knows these dogs, they yap and yap and yap and act all threatening, but when something finally stands up to them they back down with their tail between their legs.
