WHAT?!?

I'd like to know why our generation doesn't need another advocate of civil rights. Or are you merely implying that you don't want to listen to a black man?

I'm saying that our country already listens to black men. We have plenty of civil rights advocates without adding the president to the mix. We need a president who is not partial to any race or gender. I have no problem with a black president, as long as he is concentratinf on fixing the country as a whole. This is the same expectation that I have of a white president or a female president. You're apparently missing my point altogether.

Sorry, I can't let this one go. Thus the edit...

Thanks for elaborating on your statement. To me, it doesn't reflect the same sentiments/points previous made, but the latter post makes me feel a little better.

I think having a president who is an advocate of civil rights would be a good thing. "Less is more" just doesn't apply in that case.

Clinton is also for civil rights, though. This election has become about color vs gender... and that needs to stop.

Obama is a white hating racist? just because he is of colour? thats like saying Hilary is a black hating racist just because she's of caucasian skin tone.

Obama won over the votes of Iowa, which is a 95% 'white' state. How would he supposedly do that is he hated whites? He cares a great deal about America [hence his run for presidency] so its probably not the best idea to make large accusations.

Can you really blame anyone ? This will be the first time a Black male or a female would become president. I'm not saying gender & race are important but it's something that will deffanetlly go down in history.

Of course it will. I'm very happy that we had a 'first female candidate' it's about time to same with obama. I may not like his style but i'm so very happy that we finally have a first. That means more will be coming up in later years. I dont care about gender or race as long as the person is good enough to run our nation then i'm a happy camper.

It's not the fact that he's black. It's the fact at the beginning of this race, he talked as if blacks are lone victims of racism and are owed something by white people. From experience, I can tell you that this is not true.

In states like Iowa, he changed the direction of his campaign to a more white-driven campaing than before. He went from racism against blacks to racism against all people. Then he pulled the bi-racial card out and started talking about racism his white family member have had to endure. I don't trust him after the way he stared out, though. He actually had governments apologizing to the black communities and shelling out money to raparations after years of opression. I've been oppressed my whole freaking life, and I can't even get the government to give me health insurance. I'm white, and I've been to all black schools. It was horrible. When I was 7, my school had the high school in it as well. The little black girl across the street and I were friends. We got into a fight one time, and her sister in high school got a huge group of friends to corner me. They circled around me and pushed me back anf forth between them yelling obsceneties at me. That was terrifying. That is just one story from one school.

I have no problems with people of any race, but I refuse to accept that they are victims of our society. I have had to work hard for everything that I've ever gotten in life, and it should be no different for some one else just because she's black. I don't owe anything to anybody, and I don't feel that my tax mone should go to reparations to people who I have never wronged in my life when I actually need that money. I also think that some 30-something-year-old guy should be made to make a public apology for the oppression of people that he isn't even old enough to remember . . . If he was even born yet.

Don't call me racist. I know a lot of black people. When I was in school I had friends who were black, hispanic, latino, asian, and many other races. They were all great people, and they didn't victimize themselves. I'm not prejudiced against any race, but I am prejudiced against lazy people who want to government to fix everything for them.

We need a government that is going to disburse funds to people -- not black, not hispanics, not any other race in particular, but to people who work hard and just need a helping hand for a little while. We need a government that is going to stop fooling around with health insurance under the ploy that it's better than universal health care, because in the end health insurance doesn't pay off. It's just a way for the government to keep more Americans in jobs and pretend that they are making the unenployment rate go down without robbing the rest of the working-class Americans. We need a government that is going to stop let corporations hide behind this freakins laissez-faire excuse of a government and force them to bring jobs into America.

To be honest with you, none of the candidates are planning to do any of these things. I agree that I would much rather have some one other than Hillary running this country. The problem is that Obama and McCain couldn't do a better job than her as far as I'm concerned. McCain is the reincarnate of Bush. Obama thinks that he is the savior of black Americans.

Hillary had a little bit of the girl power thing in her campaign, but she has never gone as far as Obama. She's not extreme about it. She uses the idea the if women work hard, they can get where she is. They can do what they want to do. She's not asking the government to apologize to women for the oppression of the years past and shell out money to them.

So basically Obama is forcing a generation of people that had nothing to do with the extreme racist opression to apologize for the actions of people that are most likely dead?

I hate the fact that people are divided by race, but you can't get rid of it, and honestly I think Obaba's actions are completely unfair. I refuse to apologize for anything before Martin Luther King. I wasn't born then, and the way I am now I have nothing against people of other races. I have a ton of friends that are hispanic, and some of them are asian, and a couple are black. Even today you have people preaching reparations for years that have long passed, and it's a low cliff-hold to hang on, because in my opinion it makes him look like the monster here.

Either you A) Live in a bubble or B) Are lying to yourself.
How could you possibly say that blacks and whites are equally oppressed? That's like saying Rosie O'Donnel is as hot as Angelina Jolie.

And not needing another advocate for civil rights? When is that EVER a bad thing?

Judging by other posts you've made in this thread, it is apparent you are to some extent racist (whether or not you will admit or even realize it).

Disgusting. And not needing another advocate for civil rights? When is that EVER a bad thing?

I hope you don't utter that garbage to real life friends - I'd hope they'd beat the shit out of you for being such an ass.

It's not garbage. Do you know how much I can't get just because of that color of my skin that black people can? It's utterly ridiculous that black people still keep playing this oppression card. I'm white, and I've lived in utter oppression my entire life. I can't get anywhere, and nobody is helping me. I tried looking through the scholarships offered at my college, and do you know how hard it was to find any that weren't for minorities? The world is being handed to minorities on on a silver platter, and because I refuse to walk on eggshells and be PC around people I'm not worth listening to?

When is there ever going to be an advocate for my rights? When is there ever going to be some one to protect and secure my future? There's not, because I'm white. How's that for disgusting?

Well, Obama already won, and it does matter. The point that I was making is that I want a leader who is out to make this country a better place for every one regardless of rage or gender. We don't need a civil rights activist as president. We need some one who doesn't see skin color, but rather just plain Americans.

I can't say that I know much about Kennedy. I never really took the time to get to know his history.
