hahahaha, where I'm from, at certain points in the movie, it sounds like Forrest is saying Ginny, not Jenny.

haha . . . Jenny is actually quite a popular name here in America, so it's the people who read and watch Harry Potter who had something to get used to. Ginny is one that most people aren't familiar with. I know that my best friend and her friends used to pronounce her name with a hard G. I kept telling them it was soft, but they wouldn't listen.
People named Ginny always get called Jenny here, because people aren't familiar with it. I have an Aunt Ginny, and it happens to her all of the time. I have always loved the name Ginny, and I was wuite happy when I saw it in Harry Potter the first time. The only problem is that I now can never name any of my future daughters Ginny because of HP.

and thats so weird, for me ginny sounds totally normal lol and its waaayyy better than ginevra

Every one would accuse me of naming her after a Hp character. Of course, I could always use the fall back that she was named after my aunt.
Ginevra is definately weird here. Ginny is strange, too, though. The thing is that it's a nickname for the name Virginia, here. Virginia is sort of a marmish name so not many people really have that name anymore, and most of the people who do are too marmish to be called a nickname like Ginny. Most Virginias that I've met are just called Virginia.

yes, i read in tons of fanfic ppl writing her like virginia, which is ok cause here it is a very common name
but i think ginny is a pretty name for a girl, so if you wanna use it i totally support your desicion

Nice =/= whipped. Harry wouldn't let Ginny step all over him, as seen throughout the series, when he argues with his friends, he doesn't just sit back and accept what they think over what he thinks.
