Because the wording is different. Some of the words are bigger or smaller. Thats the reason why. So dont go and freak out. Its fine. |

Yeah, our Harry Potter books have larger words. The text that they use is 12-point Adobe Garamond. I doubt that the difference in wording has much to do with it, though. , because they just substitute certain words for different ones. A lot of the British terms are even kept the same. _________________

Our font sizes are different^
Also, we have little illustrations at the beginning of each chapter, so that pushes the page down.
Some of the British slang words are changed, but less so in the more recent books. Some grammar is changed, too. But that has nothing to do with the change in the page count. The change in the page count is because of the font size and illustrations. _________________

Which is good, because I think bigger pages would be better _________________

I want them to realease the British ones in America so that I can get them without paying double the price. Unfortuntely, the Harry Potter publishers hate me. _________________

I wish there were other sites we could order the books from. I mean, a reliable site. _________________

We can order them from the uk amazon.com site, but the price of shipping is twice as much as the books . . . sometimes more!
I wonder which versions they sell in Canada . . . _________________

Seriously . . . Canada is less than three hours from here. Surely if they can sell the UK version there, then they can manage it here. I wish I had a passport (I keep meaning to get one, but I'm so poor). Then I could just borrow my mom's car and drive there to get them. They are so close, yet so far . . . _________________

Yes, I know... my dad went to the UK on a business trip and he got me 1, 2, and 3 in UK versions. :]
But, yes, they sell the UK ones in Canada. The reason they don't in America is because of the publisher- Scholastic publishes US, Bloomsbury publishes UK. _________________

Oh, well the American versions are all illustrated by Mary Grand-Pre. She does a really good job with the chapter illustrations, I enjoy them a lot. :] _________________

I know they sell them through Amazon UK, that's how I got my version of DH. That's why I said "other" sites.
I'm thinking I might need to take a road trip up to Canada this summer.... _________________

It doesn't matter. They should still sell the UK ones in America. It Bloomsbury can have the books sold in canada, would it really be that difficult to get them to America. _________________

I don't think Scholastic would appreciate that. _________________
