When the Trio get captured by Greyback and co, Hermione covers her own identity by claiming that she is Penelope Clearwater. Obviously Hermione called herself Penelope only to cover up that she's a muggleborn but Penelope Clearwater is a muggleborn herself.
This is shown in The Chamber of Secrets. Penelope Clearwater was petrified with Hermione in the book as they walked out of the library. And the Basilisk/Heir of Slytherin would only petrify muggleborns. I guess it was a mistake JK made. Just thought I'd like to point that out... _________________

Hermione mentions the name Penelope Clearwater because she knew that Penelope was a half-blood, which is better than her own muggle-born status and the fact that she was teh notorius friend of Harry's. Penelope was petrified by the baslislk, but probably beacuse she was with Hermione at the time, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or, it could be because she was a half-blood and not a pure-blood that she was petrified. _________________

Yah, because in the book Penelope was petrified because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Voldemort was after muggleborns and she wasn't one so, it was just bad luck for her. _________________

Thanks for clearing that up.
It never occured to me think that Penelope did end up at the wrong place the wrong time. _________________
