well ive mainly used this site for the fan fics section(Flourish & Blotts) and ive noticed that in the last 3 months, fan fic activity has kinda died down. At first i thought that people were just getting sick of writing them but now that i think about it, its highly unrealistic that that many people decided to quit. So i was thinking maybe it has to do with the way the Flourish & Blotts section is set up. i was thinking that when you go into the Flourish & Blotts forum, there should be a genre index (Romance, Action, Short Story, ect.) and maybe instead of having it set up were every chapter is in the same thread, you could make a drop down list that has all the chapters listed (kinda like on FanFiction.net) I know this isnt really a fan fic site but that would probably bring a lot of writers to the forums.
The way the forums work wouldn't make it possible to have a different thread for each Chapter - unless we allowed people to do that themselves. But the stories would never be grouped together. They'd just be in a Romance section for example, floating around on the topic list for that section.
I like the idea of splitting that section into subcategories though. I can honestly say it might entice me to read the stories in there. _________________

I agree. Splitting the forum into sub categories would be pretty neat. The scroll down idea, not so much. I don't think the forum skin could handle that. _________________
Thank you for the suggestions. Because of the organization and technical limitations of the forums, I do not believe that splitting fanfic chapters into separate topics would be the best idea. There would be several factors leading to confusion, disorganization, and overwhelming reliance and moderation and upkeep.
Regarding the suggestion of genres, the only implementation that I would support would be creating a sticky topic(s) with genres and links to each of the fanfic threads. This would need to be manually created and maintained. It would require significant time to setup initially, since all current topics would need to be reviewed, classified, and linked to. I am not opposed to this being done, but would require assistance from a volunteer moderator(s) or member(s). _________________
I really like the idea of classifying the genres. It would make browsing much easier. Some people tend to gloss over stories, but if they had some idea what they were about, they might stop and take a look. _________________ Breathing is optional. Look, Bella, look.

Sounds like we have a volunteer. _________________

I will help move any topics and such if you need my help. _________________
