I was watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the other day with friends. and of course I compared stuff to the old one. i was just wondering what you all thought about them and which you liked best. I think that overall I liked the original best. but I like both.
I like violet better in the new one, veruca in the old one, and mike and...uh the other kid...drawing a blank, augustus! I'm indifferent on them. I like the grandpa better in the old one, but I like charlie better in the new one. the oompa loompas are definitely better in the old one. they're just scary in the new one! and their songs suck.
now when it comes down to willy...I love them both. Gene Wilder is cooky but charming but Johnny Depp is so awkwardly funny you just want to hug him. and he really cracks me up. so what are your opinions? _________________ They say home is where the heart is, so your real home's in your chest. --Captain Hammer
I like how the newer version stays more true to the book. The title for, instance remained the same. Which is ironic because in the newer version, the story is more about Willy, than about Charlie.
I liked Violet in the first version, it was more to the book. The new Violet with her mom was dumb, I dont know why that was changed. But I liked both Verucas, bt for different reasons. I felt the newer one was more real, but the older one was more fun.
I liked the older Mike better and I'm also indifferent as far as the Augustuses go.
I also liked the first grandfather better, but the new Charlie. And of course I liked the mom in the newer version better!
I liked both Willys, they each brought something different to the story. I felt that although Johnny Depp was played too young for the part, he made it work, despite the poor decisions thrust upon him.
I miss some of the songs from the first film, emphasis on the word "some."
I actually liked the newer Oompa Loompas better. I loved how they managed to put the songs from the book into the movie.
I enjoyed the squirrels far more than the geese. And the elevator was much better in the second version.
Overall, I liked the second, more recent, film version better.
First Version - Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Willy Wonka was just completely strange in the new one. That was disappointing considering that I don't prefer Gene Wilder, but I LOVE Johhny Depp. The man is ingenius, but sometimes he takes his characters a little over the edge. He needs to pull it in a little sometimes.
I do like the kidd who played charlie better in the new one, but I that doesn't mean that I didn't like the one in the old one.
I thought that the oompa loompas were pretty scary in this one, too. liked about half of the OL songs in the new one, but I liked all of them in the old version. My favorite song in the new was was the Veruca Salt one. I actually have that one on my I-pod.
I loved whats-her-face who played Bellatrix as Charlie's mother. I think she is a better actress than Johnny Depp is an actor. I always liked her. She is Tim Burton's wife, though. That is why she pops up in his movies.
I definately liked the other kids better in the first movie. I was disappointed not to see the song that Veruca sang in the original movie. I really think that they could have craetively made a new one from the old one. That was the best song in the old version.

Okay, i actually like he old one better. The new one was actually pretty creepy. What with johnny depp and the new oompa loompas. I liked all the old songs and stuff. And while I do like the fact that the new movie stayed truer to the book, I like the old version better. _________________ Twilight fan? Come here!
I definitely liked the first one better. The second one was funny, but it couldn't compare to the original. _________________

I love love love love looovvvveee Johnny, but... Johnny as Willy just annoyed me so much. It wasn't right and the full film was a mess to me apart from Charlie, i thought he was amazing in it cuz he just makes you smile hes so sweet.
