To summarize...
Nicholas Flamel was a real alchemist... someone who stufied the theory of alchemy... Supposedly he really did discover the Philosopher's Stone.
American publisher's didn't think kids would want to read a book with the word Philosopher in it... so they changed it to Sorceror. Nicholas Flamel is a British legend, so most kids there have heard of it. Not as many American kids have.
