Apparently, you can block it. In GOF, it blew up a headstone without killing Harry, and it can be deflected by other spells colliding with it. Also, no one seems to think of attempting to dodge, it would be easy enough.[/spoiler]

If it hit the headstone... then it didn't hit Harry did it?

It was only deflected once that I know if, by Harry's wand... and perhaps it was because they were brother wands and therefore created priori incatem.

I'm sure people have tried to dodge it many times. Of course, I would think it would be similar to dodging a bullet...

^I agree with the bullet theory. Possible but not probable to happen very often.

You have to mean them.

I guess if you "mean it" enough, the spell will never miss.

I don't really know, though.

Okay in Harry's case it was diffrent but with anyone else-If it touches you no matter what, you have no chance, drop dead, your a gonner, good-bye, you die - I think you get the picture. And we mostly all agree that you will die if it even skims your finger/or at the lightest touch. And you have to partly mean it. It is a Killing Curse after all.... Cool

Almost all curses don't really work if you don't mean it lol. Then what's the point of even using the curse?

Let's say that the killing curse works even if the user doesn't mean to kill and the victim dies. It would be hilarious seeing the user go up to the dead body saying I'm sorry.

As the spell hits, I get the impression that its something like an electric current that starts from the point where it hits and spreading over the whole body. Therefore, the curswe actually hits the whole body, thus the victim dies.

Powerful? Yes.
Would he? Not very likely.

^ Totally agree. He can't mean it. Even if he tried, he wouldn't do it.

I've also been wondering...What if the wizard isn't strong enough, or a powerul enough wizard, and the spell isn't right when they say it and it hits a person, would the person die, or survive? With the other unforgivable curses, you have to really mean them or they don't have the full effect. What is the killing curse isn't strong enough to kill someone?

To perform any spell you pretty much have to mean it... so I'm guessing if the Killing Curse spell is too weak,t eh person won't die. Especially if the person being hit wasn't the intended victim.

the thing is, if you get a sinister enough person, its just an easy solution. it doesn't cost you any energy, it is unblockable and it kills. basically, all adults can use this curse. Put simply, i'm a person that prefers swords to guns, they take more skill.

(It's spelt Avada Kedavra)

But I agree, as long as it touches you, you're gone.

So if you don't "mean it" the person won't die? Then if it hits someone else by accident (like in a massive battle) would they die, if you didn't mean it to be them who died?

That would be my guess.

It kills as soon as it touches you. Protego only weakens the spell though, I think.

How can you 'weaken' a killing curse?

I'm pretty sure avada kadavra can't kill you either...

Tho you wouldn't stand a chance against Avada Kedavra.
