So now we know Hagrid didn't marry, so does that mean MM didn't conform to society when she chose her career over procreation and marriage?

JKR said...

Quote:
Q: Did Hagrid ever get married and have children?

[Aww from crowd] JKR: Oh, did Hagrid ever get married and have children? No. [awwws again] I may change that immediately due to the look on your face. Yes! He had 22! - No, no, Hagrid never did marry and have children. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. Oh I feel terrible now. I'll write another book! [Ovation] Realistically, Hagrid's pool of potential girlfriends is extremely limited. Because with the giants killing each other off, the number of giantesses around is infinitesimal and he met one of the only, and I'm afraid, she thought he was kind of cute, but she was a little more, how should I put it, sophisticated than Hagrid. So no, bless him. [Awws] I kept him alive, come on! [Applause.]

If Hagrid's dating pool was slim, then I'm guessing Madame Maxime's was, as well.

But just because she didn't marry Hagrid, doesn't mean she didn't marry. We still don't know her outcome... she could have gotten married and had kids. Just not with Hagrid.
Her and Hagrid broke up because she didn't agree it was a good idea for him to bring grawp back. And they were just too different. They made better friends, than anything more.

And even if she didn't, it might not have had anything to do with nonconforming... there are plenty of reasons women choose not to marry.

I don't think that her not marrying Hagrid had anything to do with her being a feminist. And since when does not marrying have anything to do with feminism? Unless you mean neo-feminism which is a whole different movement completely different from the idea of equality. Which I doubt was what JKR was going for.

Way to punch a hole in my theory with facts haha.

The feminist part was a joke, because my sisters hell into it and I think it's nonsense 'cause these days it's less about having choices and more about not becoming a stay at home mama and other such, so-called 'degrading' things.

Sorry about that, lol.

The new feminist movement is called "neo-feminism." It's not about equality it's about, yeah, "degrading" things. It's about how staying at home is bad and all that... it's not what it used to be and in my opnion it's a really bad movement that I hope ends soon.

Agreed.

Hmm would Hagrid ever find a non-giant wife? Disregarding the fact that he didn't.

I'm sure it's possible...anything is possible. I mean, how could you not love him... but some poeple are very narrow-minded and might be thrown by his size and the fact that he is half-giant. But once they got to know him, sure he could have found someone who loved him almost as much as we do.

Could they have kids? I mean, physically, that might be a bit of a challenge, to put it lightly.

I would like for something like that to happen, but considering all the prejudice I wonder if it would?
Then again taking into consideration that Lupin was in the same situation and found love, and that after the fall of Voldemort it probably changed, it's possible.
I love Hagrid, it would have been nice if he had ended up with someone.
