Well there is evidence that some/most of the bible is true, if you have read the bible, and looked into the history of some countries, likes Isreal, Greece, Egypt and so forth, you will see that there is a large amount of evidence that supports the Bible.
All about as valid as the "large amount of evidence" that the tooth fairy leaves money under children's pillows. Multiple anecdotal accounts with no true validity behind them. Simple experimentation is enough to disprove just about any testable biblical claim.

There isn't any evidence that a person should have ethics or morals. Society has laid down laws to follow, but aside from that most of us just believe that there are certain ways we should act.
I disagree - morals are ingrained in human personality. Humans evolved as social creatures, and in the process they had to pick up some social morals to keep society running properly.
Humans by nature have trouble killing other humans. During the Civil War, there were many guns found on dead soldiers with multiple rounds of ammunition stuffed down the barrell. The obvious deduction is that there were some soldiers who never fired their weapons at other humans - they just kept loading them and loading them to make it look like they were.

Why should you not discriminate against someone different than you? They look different, or act different - instinct would run towards singling out a minority for different treatment. But we don't do it (well, hopefully most of us don't), because we believe it to be a wrong way to act.
This has more validity to it - while human nature goes against murder, it advocates racism. Unite with those who look like you against those who don't, I guess. Still, we can reasonably deduct that looks do not determine personality, and that racism is unjust. This is the point where you have to use your brain to overcome your emotions.

I'm not saying that people don't act hypocritically in their beliefs. I constantly see people pick and choose which passages of the Bible, etc. to follow and which to ignore.
But everybody believes something that runs contrary to evidence.
I think that's a stretch. Off the top of my head I don't think I believe anything with no empirical backing, and I know quite a few people who are the same way. Perhaps I've missed one or two of my beliefs, but if I was aware that any of them were lacking empirical support then I would thoroughly reevaluate those beliefs.

Love, hate, sadness, happiness could all be reduced down to the result of chemical interactions, overabundances, or deficits in the body. We could rationalize our feelings away but we don't.
Can you explain where you're going with this? I don't think anybody requires evidence to feel an emotion. They do need evidence to hold a belief, however.

Yes, when you get down to it it's silly to believe one thing without evidence and not another, but we all do it.
Like I said before, I don't think we all do it, I don't think it's necessary, and I certainly think the idea that it's ok to believe something without any kind of evidence is quite harmful to society. _________________

This is not about the Tooth Fairy, get back on topic. 666. _________________

Leave to Ravvy to really get down to the heart of the matter!
It's not about the tooth fairy, but the tooth fairy point is valid. Why believe in one myth, but write another off as a lie. It's just ridiculous. _________________

You can trace the tooth fairy myths back to it's exact origins, same with Santa Claus. That is why it is harder to believe in those myths than in others.
As Al said, this thread is about a number, not the tooth fairy. Or the Easter Bunny or a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
If you don't believe in the 666 number, that's fine. But please don't turn this into an argument that involves calling people ignorant and discriminatory. If this thread continues to go in that direction, a moderator will lock it. _________________ Blame it on a simple twist of fate ~ Bob Dylan Team Cucumber, FTW!
