I think that Snape has an overwhelming guilt for what he has done, and until he is quite sure that the Dark Lord is gone for good, he has put this guilt into the back of his mind, hiding it away. I think that he will end up telling Harry a bunch of the reasoning behind his actions towards the end of book 7. Right after he steps in and saves Harry's life again.
